All Bangladeshi missions abroad have been asked to become more expatriate-friendly and to be more attentive in imparting consular services.

Foreign minister Dr AK Abdul Momen gave the directives on Tuesday in a letter to the chiefs of the missions.

In the letter, he instructed the mission chiefs to uphold the country’s image to the world.

The minister assured the missions of considering any suggestions from them that will improve the services for expatriates.

He said that initiatives like setting up 24-hour hotline, embassy apps, placement of complaint boxes and putting CCTV cameras in place at the airports have been taken to stop harassment of the expatriates.

But, the problems faced by the expatriates will have to be seen from the humanitarian angle, he said, adding that according to the budget of FY2019-20, 2% cash incentive is being given against the remittance sent through legal channels.

In the letter, Momen also asked the missions to explore as to how the host countries can help create skilled workforce in Bangladesh.

This will, he said, benefit the foreign investors and employment will be created in the country.

Recently, the National Skill Development Authority has been established at the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, which will play an important role in creating skilled manpower.
