2 Rohingyas among 3 ‘criminals’ killed in Teknaf ‘gunfight’

Three suspected criminals, including two Rohingyas, were killed in a reported gunfight with police at Baharchhara in Teknaf Upazila early Thursday.

They were identified as Mohammad Jamil, 20, son of Fazal Ahmed; and Asmat Ullah, 21, son of Nabi Hossain of Ukhiya’s Balukhali camp (Block 79); and Md Rafique, 24, son of Md Ali of Teknaf Upazila.

He said the criminals, wanted in several cases, were arrested on Wednesday.

Based on their information, police along with the criminals later conducted a drive in the area to recover firearms.

When law enforcers reached Baharchhara, criminals opened fire, triggering a ‘gunfight’. The three criminals sustained gunshot wounds.

They were taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared them dead.

Three light guns, six bullets, and eight bullet shells were recovered from the spot.

Besides, ASI Habib Ullah, Constables Rakibul and Delwar were seriously injured in the incident and undergoing treatment at the hospital, OC added.
