Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard have detained 119 Malaysia-bound Rohingyas from a trawler near St Martin’s Island in Teknaf Upazila of Cox’s Bazar district.
Coast Guard Staff Officer (Chattogram Zone) Lt Commander Saiful Islam said: “Acting on a tip-off, the 119 Rohingyas were detained around midday on Thursday (Nov 14).
“Among the detained, there were 14 children, 58 women and 47 men. They were all resident of the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar.”
The next course of action will be decided after consulting the authorities concerned, the coast guard official added.
