Flights on Sylhet-London route launched after 9 yrs

Biman Bangladesh Airlines has inaugurated direct flights on the Sylhet-London-Sylhet route from Osmani International Airport route to ease the air travel of residents and British expatriates.

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali inaugurated the direct flight from the airport on Sunday, the ministry said a press release.

A flight of the national flag carrier, carrying 232 Bangladeshi nationals, is scheduled to depart from Sylhet Osmani International Airport at 11:15 am, Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Public Relations Officer Tanveer Ahmed confirmed Dhaka Tribune.

On September 16, a virtual meeting was held between CAAB and UK’s Department for Transport (DFT) to finalize the direct flights on the Sylhet-London-Sylhet route.

In the meeting, CAAB proposed to DFT about the resumption of direct flights on the Sylhet-London route while appraising the UK team regarding the steps, and preparations taken by the Bangladeshi aviation authority to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Following the meeting, Biman received permission to launch the direct flights.
