The RAB has handed over Didarul Bhuiyan of Rashtrochinta, a group of political activists, and businessman Minhaz Mannan Emon to the police after charging them in a Digital Security Act case.

The Rapid Action Battalion gave the custody of Didarul and Minhaz, who are among 11 accused in the case, to the police on Wednesday evening, Ramna Police Station Inspector Zahirul Islam told bdnews24.com.

Minhaz is the managing director of BLI Securities Ltd.

The RAB earlier arrested cartoonist Ahmed Kabir Kishore and writer Mushtaq Ahmed on charges of peddling lies against the government on social media in the same case.

The elite police unit apprehended Kishore from Kakrail while Mushtaq was arrested at his home in Lalmatia on Tuesday. They were subsequently placed in the custody of Ramna police.

The family of Didarul, who is also a member of the Disaster Response Monitoring Committee, earlier said RAB-1 and 3 had denied having any knowledge of his whereabouts. He was picked up from home in the capital by people posing as members of the force on Tuesday evening, they alleged.

The family and fellow activists of Didarul at a press conference earlier on Wednesday urged the people who picked up Didarul to hand him to the police or court if they had allegations against him.

According to the case started by Deputy Assistant Director Zahirul Islam of RAB-3, information from Mushtaq on his associates led to the arrests of Didarul and Minhaz.

They chatted on WhatsApp and Messenger that were “conspiratorial against the state”, the RAB official said in the case.

The accused also include blogger Asif Mohiuddin and journalist Tasneem Khalil, both of whom are abroad.

The others are Saer Zulkarnain, who runs a Facebook page called ‘I am Bangladeshi’, Ashiq Imran, Phillipp Schuhmacher, Shapan Wahid, Shahed Alam, Asif Mohiuddin, and some five unidentified people.

The accused have long been propagating rumors about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Liberation War, coronavirus epidemic, and spreading disinformation about the government to belittle it by using the Facebook page and their personal accounts, the plaintiff alleged.

He claimed he was late to bring charges because he needed to interrogate the accused first.
