Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has instructed telecom operators to shut mobile networks along the borders with India.

Following the instruction on Sunday, operators suspended networks within 1km of the borders on Monday.

“The network shutdown has been ordered following directives from the government,” BTRC Senior Assistant Director (media) Jakir Hossain Khan said.

BTRC in its directive to Grameenphone, Teletalk, Robi and Banglalink, said network coverage will have to be suspended until further notice “for the sake of the country’s security in the current circumstances”.
